Intricate Island

From Drawing to Completion

This kitchen design featured an intricate island that set the stage for the rest of the space, and included a wine section, profiled island panels and room for two large stools under a deep countertop overhang. The ceiling height soared at 13 feet tall and required a support beam in between the fridge and range wall at 10 feet high. The plan was for the builder to install a bulkhead with lighting to conceal the beam.

The biggest challenge was when the builder installed the bulkhead, and then realized that it was not the correct depth to fit flush with the fridge/freezer unit. The designer’s solution was to reduce the depth of the crown moulding and have the builder modify and re-install the bulkhead. The stressful situation was resolved with the cooperation from all subcontractors working as a team to find the best solution!
